Jesus chose you

TOPIC: Confidence

MAIN SCRIPTURES: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” (John 14:12)

“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.” (Acts 4:13)

WHAT JESUS MIGHT SAY TO YOU: Have you read my words to you in John 14:12? Do you understand what they mean? If so, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed, right? “How on earth can I do greater things than Jesus, let alone the same things? I can’t even get my own life together!”

I understand your feelings, and I want to encourage you.

Believe it or not, I chose you—to follow me, to be my friend and child, but also to be my coworker. I have faith in you. You’re usually taught to have faith in me, but I’m telling you that I also have great faith in you. I would not have chosen you if I did not believe you could do what I do. I returned to heaven knowing that you’re able to continue my work.

Look at the men I chose for disciples. They were unschooled … and not successful, well—respected, or powerful men. But they became powerful because I worked through them. Although Peter denied me three times, I chose him to feed my sheep and build my church.

Being my disciple means following me closely, learning from me, becoming like me, and doing what I do. This is what it means to abide. We become inseparable. As my child, you also have the Holy Spirit. You have God dwelling in you, giving you the ability to be like me and move mountains!

Don’t underestimate yourself and who I’ve made you to be. When you are weak, I am strong. You are made in my image and filled with my Spirit … by whom you have access to the same power that raised me from the dead! you can be like me. I have faith in you. Trust me as I trust you.

Go be my disciple.
